I’m a huge fan of mid-tempo music. I think the recent skyrocketing of moombahton’s popularity is great, because its in that funky region of BPM where dubstep’s groove is mashed up with the high-paced, ‘jump-up’ energy of electro house. However, in the shadow of moombahton exists it’s darker, grimier cousin: glitch hop. Recently made more popular through the efforts of OWSLA signees KOAN Sound (them two dudes up top), it’s high time glitch hop got a bit of the spotlight here on RCP, so here are six tracks, handpicked by yours truly, to make you bob your head and tap your feet. All heavy, all grimy, all RCP approved.
Hey baby. It’s been a while. You missed me? Because I know I’ve been missing you…
And even if you didn’t miss my sharp wit during my brief ‘hiatus’, I know for a fact that your Radio has been missing this kind of Control. Start this week off right with a long overdue Manic Monday, double-stuffed just in case Spring Break keeps me from doing my duty to y’all next week (very likely).
Doubling up on all the goodness in the post, we got double the moombah, double the prog and double the electro to get you going. We’re about to put five hour energy out of business with fresh bangers from ranging from Nadastrom‘s heavy-heavy moombahcore to Tim Mason‘s uplifting prog goodness. So go grab a fresh pair of underwear, and catch the dirt after the jump. Continue reading →
Last night, Skrillex from L.A., the Grammy award-winning cyborg played at London’s Electric Brixton for After Show following his gig at the O2 Academy Brixton. Alvin Risk and the club’s MC got the crowd feeling rowdy, solidifying a wild cross-section of London’s rave scene into one gyrating mass. At 2 am SebastiAn took the decks, showcasing the darker side of electro- and tech house with tracks like Nero’s remix of ‘C.T.F.O.’ and his own remix of Daft Punk’s ‘Human After All’. And then there was Skrillex…
2011 ended hugely for Aylen, with his remixes trending nice and high on Hypem charts and a bumpin’ Dec 29th set at Pacha NYC alongside Afrojack, R3hab, Bobby Burns and Apster. Throughout the year, this New Jersey based producer/DJ had been keeping busy churning out remixes for tracks as hot as Avicii’s ‘Blessed’, David Guetta’s ‘Without You’, and Laidback Luke’s & Steve Aoki’s ‘Turbulence’. His latest creation, a remix of Skrillex and Ellie Goulding’s ‘Summit’, went wild on the blogoshpere and carried the hype behind Aylen to new heights – and this is just the beginning. Check out the intensely groovy electro house rendition of Skrillex’s mellow ‘Summit’ below then make the jump to find out what Aylen has in store for us in 2012.
I could go on here about the history behind Skrillex aka The Artist Formerly Known As Sonny. But who the fuck wants to read the eloquent bullshit I write when there’s NEW SKRILLEX TO BE HEARD!?!?!?! Catch the full Bangarang EP after the jump, just for all you Radio Control Freaks. Continue reading →
