130bpm, 4-to-the-floor, afrobeat, dem bow riddim and R&B…

…make up UK Funky, in a nutshell. Well, it’s actually much deeper than that. I really don’t wanna get it wrong or tick the professionals and experts off. It’s this sexy, not at all misogynistic, tasteful, and yet so raw and tribal house type of music with almost live-sounding drum patterns.

UK Funky is like a bowl of delicious, ethnic, colourful, tossed salad of UK Garage, Tribal house, Soca, electro house with chunks of goodness like soul or R&B-style vocals on top, dressed with Latin or African percussions in the dem bow riddim (dancehall ting), served at a groove-friendly 130-135 beats per minute tempo.

There are heaps and heaps of amazing UK Funky producers out there, but today I’m scribbling about the 23-year-old Ossie from East London. He used to make Hip Hop and R&B with his friends since he was 11 until House took over and he started fusing them all like a boss chef. Anyway, Ossie’s ish is bomb. It’s deep, it’s modest, soul, natural.. Take a bite.

His newest creation, “Love Crazy” is released on July 9 from 2020 Midnight Visions.

Some more tracks from his Set The Tone EP (released by Hyperdub - prestiiiiige!!!).

Redlight.. House, Bass and Beyond

Redlight, (Hugh James Pescod) another Bristol OG/record producer/DJ/re-mixer/composer with never too many other aliases such as Clipz, Animal Youth Club, Conqueror – whose fans and followers incude Skream, Toddla T, Jack Beats, A-Trak, Mark Ronson, Zinc and Annie Mac – is about to drop another party tune of the summer, “Lost in Your Love”, due for release on August 5. This one is probably more dedicated to the mainstream end of House than to his usual UK Funky/Grime/Dancehall/Garage die-hard fans. Very lyrical, very dance floor friendly, got dat build-up and dat drop.. I’m not hating though, Redlight is a badman, can’t fuck with Redlight. Check out the official teaser video for the track.

Here’s a Redlight hit from a couple of years ago, “MDMA”. You might’ve heard the one which featured Ms. Dynamite, “What You Talking About!?”. I still lose my shit and have so much fun dancing to that. And another release from 2011 if you’re interested.

Again, all thanks to William J for showing me Redlight.

Dirty Jemz – Vengeance (Original Mix) // Preview + SYNERGY Headline Act

U.K. producer/DJ Dirty Jemz has just put together a preview of his latest track ‘Vengeance’. We mentioned before that this guy is the U.K.’s answer to the OWSLA empire taking over on the other side of the Atlantic, and this growling, vigorous rager of an anthem proves it. The wobbles in these track would get any The M Machine or Zeds Dead fans dancing dirty. We’d bet big money that we’re gonna hear these crazy beats at our debut London takeover at Synergy next Thursday, April 26th, where Dirty Jemz is headlining. You know you want to come.

London-based producer and DJ Kito just put up a preview of her upcoming release on BBC Radio 1xtra today – this viciously deep and hugely melodic track is her remix of Noisia’s ‘Split The Atom’. It’ll be featured by Mau5trap Records on Noisia’s special edition remix album on Feb 27th.

Kito will be playing at Fabric, London on Friday, Feb 24th – get your tickets and peep the full listing here. We’ll be going, and you should too.

Eric Turner – Dancing In My Head (Avicii’s Been Cursed Remix) [Preview]

There aren’t many more recognizable names in the EDM scene. Hell, even my mom has heard about him. For Avicii, 2011 could not have gone any better with “Levels” arguably the most popular song of the year, a collaboration with current “DJMAG” topper David Guetta and non-stop worldwide touring. It’s difficult to see how 2012 can get any bigger for the Swede yet there are rumored unreleased tracks floating around the net that continue getting people excited. Dropped at his NYE set in New York, this is one of them.

Previews! [#5] // Kaskade – Turn It Down (Le Castle Vania Remix)

Kaskade has been making moves recently with his release of the album Fire & Ice, along with a slew of huge remixes, like the ones on Zedd‘s The Aftershave and Dada Life‘s Happy Violence. Now it’s time for Kaskade to get the remix treatment, and who better to do it than the ATL dirty electro mastermind Le Castle Vania? Developing what is most probably the catchiest synth in a drop ever, he totally rips up this remix and creates an a-bomb of a track. Keep doing what you do LCV, The Control Plan salutes you. The remix is slated for a release soon on Ultra Records. Until then, the boys at Radio Control Plan got your hookup right here:

Kaskade Feat. Rebecca & Fiona – Turn It Down (Le Castle Vania)

Previews! [#4] // Style of Eye – We Are Boys (BBC Radio 1)

Coming out on Beatport tomorrow, on Ingrosso’s Refune Records, is Style of Eye‘s ‘We Are Boys’ – a caustic and hauntingly anthemic electro house monster that resembles SHM’s elegant tonal styling in Miami 2 Ibiza and One. You might not be feeling the vocals – I don’t – but the instrumental is epic. And I never say ‘epic’.

Look out for 1:26 and 2:14 because they will have you hooked.
