David August Diynamic Neon Promo Mix 08-10-2012

Age used to be the biggest contender in determining the credibility of an artist, for the most iconic DJs today stay very much relevant in their late thirties, forties and fifties. Germany’s youngster David August could prove you otherwise. At only 21 years of age, the now Berlin-based August needs no number to prove his worth.

August grew up under the influence of the piano, and at just 17 years old, has already played alongside some of the most legendary icons in the field, namely Carl Craig, Troy Pierce and Oliver Koletzki, to name a few. In 2010, he joined the Diynamic label family, under Solomun, a Hamburg-based electronic music label that is known to be one of the  most forward-thinking and eclectic in the scene. August proves that he is mature for his age having played in clubs all around the world, such as Berlin’s Watergate, Amsterdam’s AIR and London’s Corsica Studios.

This clubbing season, legendary underground venue Sankey’s Ibiza hosts DIYNAMIC NEON NIGHT every Tuesday, and August has joined forces with the likes of Stimming , label-boss Solomun, and fellow label-mate Kollektiv Turmstrasse in spinning at one of the White Isle’s biggest weekday parties.

Check out David August’s promo mix for Diynamic’s NEON NIGHT, released August 10th. The mix is a beautiful combination of the hot, flurry heat which radiates from Ibiza’s windows to ours, and the smooth jazz-house that tingles the warm in our entering-Autumn hearts. In Ibiza or not, August and the whole Diynamic crew at Sankey’s continues to party on, and on, and on… We may not have traveled across the waters to reach your ray of sunshine, Ibiza, but we definitely feel it.

All Day I Dream of…

Strawberry Ice Cream? Beautiful women? Designer clothes? Winning the lottery? There are 24 hours in a day, and while most are spent asleep, the rest of the time we are busy commuting to and from the destinations we need to get to. In between the hustle and the bustle of making it to work, running errands, meeting him, meeting her and avoiding traffic all together, we have little to no time for ourselves, our thoughts, and our dreams.

Melodic, melancholic and exceptionally beautiful, the All Day I Dream of Her mix comes from British DJ, record label owner and producer Lee Burridge. Released about a year ago, this was his private playlist that, for a while, he gave away solely to girls on SoundCloud (flowers and roses are so last century ago by the way). In the mix’s description, Lee calls it the the best mix he’s ever made, full of dreamy house, music with emotions. He released this mix just prior to the launch of his own party and record label called All Day I Dream, in collaboration with German DJ/producer Matthew Dekay.

I’ll leave the words at that. Some things just speak for themselves. The faintest tingle of a bell can sometimes ring the loudest. Summer is time for the fast and furious, but once in a while, if you find yourself in need of an instant escape, to just dream a little dream or wonder a little wonder, pull this one up. Heaven is a place on Earth they say… Close your eyes, take some time off and slip into that third dimension.

Destructo – Technology EP [BNR Trax]

This EP is one of those crazy good delicacies that needs absolutely no introduction even though I’m doing a bad job of trying to not introduce them….right now. Anyway, you’ve probably seen his name all over flyers next to the likes of Boys Noize or Rusko or Bart B More, but he really deserves some spotlight of his own. Destructo destroys! Check out his Technology EP. This is what the good stuff of electro house is made out of!

Whitney Houston 1963 – 2012 (Remixed)

She may not have been the artist of our generation, but there is no denying that the beautiful Whitney Houston had a voice that transcended time. It was a shock to all of us when her unfortunate death in Beverly Hills was revealed to the world on February 11, a day shy of her supposed-Grammy’s performance.

Rest in peace Whitney Houston, and here’s paying respect to where it’s due: a woman of unparalleled talent, and her beautiful, timeless voice.

Here are a few tracks that have surfaced recently that honors the star. She’ll live on, whether remixed or not, forever in our ears, and of course, hearts.

Remixes of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” my favorite Whitney song.

This remix brings tears to my eyes. A warm progressive take on a classic record showcasing her wonderful voice. I love this one!

The Chromeo duo brings a little disco funk to everything, and this one is no exception.

Groovy disco house remix!

The good ones always go too soon. Here’s to many more years of fruitful music, dancing, and love.

Caution: Not For The Faint of Heart (and Ears)

This time I thought I’d bring something more dramatic to the table. Feed on your electro-house, progressive-house needs with these remedies. Turn up your speakers for this one! No need to say too much, just let the drop of each track break your heart and, well, ear drums. To my defense, I did try to warn you in the title, sorry I’m not sorry.

Just wanted to say, I rang in the New Year with these Belgian music scientists in Shanghai. A shout out to the guys for a killer set, even if I swear half the people present on the dance-floor couldn’t pronounce the duo’s name. I recognized this song from the night. Proost!

Less Is More: Get Deep and Minimal with Nicolas Jaar

I know you like your EDM – so do I – but they say the grass is greener on the other side. What other side? The other side of electronic music: the luscious green fields of techno, they call it. Before moving to Europe for a semester abroad in September of 2011, I’ve always known techno/minimal as that word in the reference section of a book – we all know it, we all use it, but at the same time, never really delved into the genre.
