Hey guys, Jake here. As the laziest member of the RCP crew, it has taken me far too long to put up my first post. Alas, recent events have persuaded me to break the silence. It has come to my attention that a shockingly large portion of EDM lovers has never had the pleasure of hearing Pretty Lights’ music, much less the other brilliant artists on the Pretty Lights Music roster. If you are part of this unfortunate group, mark my words: you are missing out.
In my humble opinion, Derek Vincent Smith – otherwise known as Pretty Lights – is one of the most exciting producers in the game. If you are into hip-hop, glitch, dubstep, or anything that could be loosely described as “chill”, his material is definitely worth your time. His label, Pretty Lights Music, releases consistently excellent records from artists such as Michael Menert, Paper Diamond and, of course, Pretty Lights. Trust me, all of this stuff is f***ing great. I guess what makes the label so holistically awesome is how cohesive it all seems; each artist adds their own unique twist to the basic foundation of sample-y glitch-infused hip-hop (pardon the hyphens), resulting in a diverse yet unified catalogue of music. I’ve literally never been disappointed by a PLM release. The best part? It’s all absolutely free to download on their website.
I’ve taken the liberty of posting one of my favorite songs by each artist on the PLM roster, with a couple of extra Pretty Lights tunes just ‘cause. You don’t have to thank me, but you’ll probably want to. Enjoy!
P.S. If anyone comments that Pretty Lights copied the sample in ‘Finally Moving’ from ‘Levels’, I will literally track your IP address and kill you.
